Norther Living allowance (Proof of residency)
CRA has not required an individual to submit residency proof to claim a northern living allowance at the time of tax filing. However, sometimes CRA might ask to submit proof of northern living residency. Some common types of residency proof are as follows:
Rent receipts;
Property tax bills;
Utility bills;
a copy of your rental or lease agreement;
a home insurance statement.
This would be a common list of documents. CRA might ask for different types of residency proof for each individual case.
